“The heights by great men reached and kept, were not attained by sudden flight, but they, while their companions slept, were toiling upward in the night.” ~Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

It is often frustrating to work hard while others around you tend to shrink away from responsibility.  I think to myself daily, these people climbing the corporate ladder are simply using my achievements to get a leg up.  Instead of letting this frustration bog me down, decreasing my effectiveness, I change my perspective, taking a broader view.

Maintaining a strong work ethic is essential in the long run.

Many people may pass just the buck, but at the end of the day the mere go-betweens, who leech from the efforts of others crumble under real pressure.  Those diligent, hard working, talented individuals do not.  They face problems boldly.  They are innovative, solution seeking individuals who won’t find another department to pass the problem to.  Instead, they conceive of solutions; they learn from their experiences becoming more effective problem solvers and ultimately they become more valuable and more successful.  When true crisis hits the lazy are weeded out in droves.
